MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The amendments and addenda the updated Constitution stipulates meet deep needs of the society. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 28 January, BelTA has learned.

According to the Belarusian leader, the constitutional amendments and addenda meet deep needs of the society. It is also confirmed by results of sociological studies, which indicate that about 60% of the citizens believe that the Constitution is in need of updating. They believe that the most important thing is to preserve the main social guarantees (healthcare, support for the elderly, jobs, education, and so on), ensure security, and expand genuine rights and freedoms of citizens.

“There is no doubt the Constitution has to specify such basic needs as a priority and it will definitely do so. If we don't do it, we will undo the entire history of the last 25 years when we worked to create the sovereign and independent state. It is our legacy, our advantage. We cannot abandon it. And we won't,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
